Choosing the Right Plastic Surgeon - (Lancaster, Palmdale, Los Angeles, Beverly Hills Patients)
Choosing a plastic surgeon in Lancaster is much like choosing an architect to build your dream home any where. Both requiring skill, experience and a fine eye for aesthetics, these two professions should be selected with great consideration and research.
Whether building a house or constructing a part of your body, there is a certain image that you may have envisioned in your mind. Whether or not your board certified plastic surgeon is capable of fulfilling your expectations depends on two things: skill and aesthetic perspective.
Medical training and plastic surgical experience are primary indicators of a plastic surgeon’s qualifications. Choosing a plastic surgeon who’s a certified member of an accredited board is the first step in ensuring quality care and outcomes. Plastic surgeons, including Dr. Thomas, who are board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) are required to demonstrate extensive medical training and experience. You can be confident that plastic surgeons certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery do have specific and rigorous surgical education and training. Any licensed physician can call themselves a plastic surgeon, so the importance of finding a properly trained and certified doctor is paramount.
Now that you’ve made sure that the plastic surgeon is well-trained and capable of performing a safe and superior procedure, you must assess whether or not you agree with the surgeon’s idea of what is considered “beautiful”. While skill and talent are important, sharing an aesthetic perspective is imperative in selecting a plastic surgeon.
One way to determine the doctor’s judgement is to look over some before-and-after photos. Another great way is to schedule a consultation, which will allow you to discuss your vision with the plastic surgeon, and see if he/she is in agreement with you. Many plastic surgeons, in Lancaster, including Dr. Thomas, offer free consultations! Finally, a plastic surgeon with the right tools and the right eye will provide you with satisfying results that will last a lifetime.

Providing you with the “creme de la creme” of shopping, restaurants, entertainment, services and beyond, the AV’s BEST Award recognizes local enterprises that deliver exceptional service. This year, in 2009, Dr. Ivan Thomas was distinguished as the AV’s BEST in plastic surgery for his unparalleled talent, patient care, and overall, customer satisfaction in Lancaster and the surrounding Antelope Valley. Among other factors, what makes the AV’s BEST Award so honorable is the award selection process.
The “AV’s BEST” special section counts the votes of their readers and takes account of their opinions. Every year, the Valley Press asks readers to share their thoughts about local businesses and cast a vote. The categories of enterprise range from banks and financial services to the best place to get your car checked for smog. What better way to make a satisfactory decision than with the recommendation and experience of hundreds of others just like you? Like a best friend with your best interests at heart, the AV’s BEST recognizes businesses, professions and services which dedicate their maximum effort in serving the customer.
This award confirms Dr. Thomas’ expertise, and proves that he truly does resonate among other plastic surgeons in the Lancaster and Palmdale areas. While certificates, degrees and diplomas are promising, awards like the AV’s BEST, which boast transparency and accountability, truly demonstrate a doctor’s qualification, skill and competence.
Many plastic surgery patients can be misled by publicity, “how famous” a doctor is, and their celebrity clientele. However, readers of the Valley Press are the best informed, most discerning shoppers, customers, and patients because of their access to genuine opinions and perspectives. Like testimonials, all the information provided is real, and straight from the heart. As opposed to basing your decision on superficial information, or giving into “the hype”, awards like the AV’s BEST, which are based on merit and first hand experience are not only reliable, but imperative in helping you choose the right plastic surgeon.

The Moobs Phenomenon – Medically known as Gynecomastia
Apparently the term “Moobs” is everywhere. There seems to be a fascination with taking terms that are familiar to the female population and converting them into a masculine form. For example “The Man Purse”, describing handbags for men. The term Moobs refers to enlarged male breasts or Gynecomastia. To reduce enlarged males breasts patients undergo a procedure called Gynaeplasty.
Traditionally, women undergo plastic surgery procedures to improve the way they feel about their bodies. However there is a sudden increase in men undergoing plastic surgery. Men, just as much as women, feel self conscious about physical features that may make them feel less masculine or uncomfortable. Men don’t necessarily want to change how they look, but they want to enhance some physical features making them feel more secure about their bodies. Gynaeplasty or “Moobs” reduction tends to be one of the most common surgeries for a manly plastic surgery makeover.
What are Moobs?
Moobs refer to enlarged Male Breasts or Gynecomastia.
How did the Term “Moobs” become so popular?
It seems that one news source after another, started featuring articles on this term. In 2007, Times online featured an article called “How I got rid of my Moobs”. In this article they explored statistics of men undergoing the gynaeplasty surgery as well as the personal story of one man who had undergone this procedure. Also, there has been a huge release of Moob satire videos posted on Youtube and other Media sources. Some of which are quite strange. There are entire websites dedicated to this topic including one site user who has named his Twitter site Moobs.

"Moobs" - Enlarged Male Breasts
How do men get Moobs?
Hormones, genetics and weight gain play a part in creating “Moobs”. When women gain weight and volume to the chest area they tend to be excited, however when this happens to men it can be quite embarrassing. On the other hand men can be thin and limber and have fatty deposits on the chest as well as raised and protruding nipples.
How to get rid of Moobs?
Through a surgery called Gynaeplasty. The Moobs can be reduced by fat removal as well as reducing the size of the nipple and excess flesh. Gyneaplasty is performed with a few small incisions and can be combined with Liposuction. Exercise and diet have proven to be effective but not in all cases 100% of the time.
Other Manly Makeover Procedures:
Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)
Exoderm Lift (Non Surgical Face-Lift)
Otoplasty (Protruding Ear Correction)
Eyelid Surgery

Exoderm Treatment and Preparedness
Risk of complication is minimal and unlikely to occur with
Exoderm Peel and Lift.
To prevent outbreaks of skin rashes male patients may be instructed to take either Zovirax or Valtrex 2 days prior to having the Exoderm treatment and continue on the medication the following 8 days during recovery.
Patients with darker skin may notice a slight red demarcation between the jaw and neck area until the newly regenerated skin has completely healed and resurfaced. As blending creams are applied for a period of 6-8 weeks, the red demarcations will eventually disappear. In few cases prolonged erythema (redness) of the skin may occur in some patients but is only a temporary and usually resolves within a few months following the procedure.
For optimal results postoperative conitnual skin care and daily regimen including sunscreen protection is vital to the development of new longer lasting healthy skin.

Highly Effective Results of Exoderm, the Non-surgical Facelift
With the highly effective non-surgical facelift of Exoderm, skin tone and texture can be significantly improved as wrinkles, scars, age spots and blemishes are eliminated or visibly reduced with the tightening of skin.
This results in the impression of both a facelift and skin resurfacing treatment combination from only one procedure.
The exclusively formulated phenol based solution composed of 12 ingredients actually works by resurfacing of the top layer of the skin and tightening the second layer which in turn creates a new wrinkle-free base on which new skin regenerates. Exoderm exerts controlled dermal penetration, and is thus devoid of the complications associated with conventional chemical peels.

How Nature Works Against Your Gorgeous Image
Unfortunately there are natural factors that work against us each day in retaining that fresh youthful appearance. Aging, sun, wind, and lifestyle choices can cause the quality of our facial skin to diminish rapidly.
Hyperpigmentation, sun spots, wrinkles and a dull washed out look are difficult to avoid especially if we do not take extra special care to our skin daily. Cleansing our face regularly alone does not necessarily mean that we are taking care of our skin the way we should thus unwanted changes in our appearance are likely to occur.
With the latest advances in plastic surgery such as the Exoderm phenol-based peel and improved skin care products we can have a second chance at not only regaining a more youthful appearance but also a second chance at learning how to take special care of our newly regenerated skin to reduce sun damage and rapid signs of aging.

Level of Severity
Gynecomastia could be confined to the area just under the nipple and areola, producing a small, localized protrusion or it could cover a larger area of the chest causing generalized breast enlargement. Sometimes male breast enlargement can be quite excessive approaching a size C cup.
Methods of Correction
The only sure treatments for Gynecomastia are either or combination of procedures such as Liposuction for the excess fatty breast tissue and Glandular Excision of the enlarged breast gland or Nipple Size Reduction for correction of Nipple Hypertrophy. The method of treatment depends on the composition of breast tissue surrounding the areola and nipple and also the severity on per case basis.
Surgical correction of Gynecomastia is usually performed under general anesthesia. All suturing is performed beneath the skin; therefore there are no stitches to be removed. Either method chosen by Dr.Thomas will result in minimal downtime and fairly quick recovery of 7 days with ease of pain management.

There are several causes of Gynecomastia and possible combination that can lead to this condition such as;
*Puberty
*Steroid abuse
*Obesity
*Breast Tumors
*Genetic disorders
*Chronic liver disease
*Aging
*Side effects of certain medications
Medications known to cause Gynecomastia include some anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen, mood altering drugs such as Effexor, and acid reducers such as Tagamet, Zantac, and Pepcid.
