Providing you with the “creme de la creme” of shopping, restaurants, entertainment, services and beyond, the AV’s BEST Award recognizes local enterprises that deliver exceptional service. This year, in 2009, Dr. Ivan Thomas was distinguished as the AV’s BEST in plastic surgery for his unparalleled talent, patient care, and overall, customer satisfaction in Lancaster and the surrounding Antelope Valley. Among other factors, what makes the AV’s BEST Award so honorable is the award selection process.
The “AV’s BEST” special section counts the votes of their readers and takes account of their opinions. Every year, the Valley Press asks readers to share their thoughts about local businesses and cast a vote. The categories of enterprise range from banks and financial services to the best place to get your car checked for smog. What better way to make a satisfactory decision than with the recommendation and experience of hundreds of others just like you? Like a best friend with your best interests at heart, the AV’s BEST recognizes businesses, professions and services which dedicate their maximum effort in serving the customer.
This award confirms Dr. Thomas’ expertise, and proves that he truly does resonate among other plastic surgeons in the Lancaster and Palmdale areas. While certificates, degrees and diplomas are promising, awards like the AV’s BEST, which boast transparency and accountability, truly demonstrate a doctor’s qualification, skill and competence.
Many plastic surgery patients can be misled by publicity, “how famous” a doctor is, and their celebrity clientele. However, readers of the Valley Press are the best informed, most discerning shoppers, customers, and patients because of their access to genuine opinions and perspectives. Like testimonials, all the information provided is real, and straight from the heart. As opposed to basing your decision on superficial information, or giving into “the hype”, awards like the AV’s BEST, which are based on merit and first hand experience are not only reliable, but imperative in helping you choose the right plastic surgeon.
The Moobs Phenomenon – Medically known as Gynecomastia
Apparently the term “Moobs” is everywhere. There seems to be a fascination with taking terms that are familiar to the female population and converting them into a masculine form. For example “The Man Purse”, describing handbags for men. The term Moobs refers to enlarged male breasts or Gynecomastia. To reduce enlarged males breasts patients undergo a procedure called Gynaeplasty.
Traditionally, women undergo plastic surgery procedures to improve the way they feel about their bodies. However there is a sudden increase in men undergoing plastic surgery. Men, just as much as women, feel self conscious about physical features that may make them feel less masculine or uncomfortable. Men don’t necessarily want to change how they look, but they want to enhance some physical features making them feel more secure about their bodies. Gynaeplasty or “Moobs” reduction tends to be one of the most common surgeries for a manly plastic surgery makeover.
What are Moobs?
Moobs refer to enlarged Male Breasts or Gynecomastia.
How did the Term “Moobs” become so popular?
It seems that one news source after another, started featuring articles on this term. In 2007, Times online featured an article called “How I got rid of my Moobs”. In this article they explored statistics of men undergoing the gynaeplasty surgery as well as the personal story of one man who had undergone this procedure. Also, there has been a huge release of Moob satire videos posted on Youtube and other Media sources. Some of which are quite strange. There are entire websites dedicated to this topic including one site user who has named his Twitter site Moobs.

"Moobs" - Enlarged Male Breasts
How do men get Moobs?
Hormones, genetics and weight gain play a part in creating “Moobs”. When women gain weight and volume to the chest area they tend to be excited, however when this happens to men it can be quite embarrassing. On the other hand men can be thin and limber and have fatty deposits on the chest as well as raised and protruding nipples.
How to get rid of Moobs?
Through a surgery called Gynaeplasty. The Moobs can be reduced by fat removal as well as reducing the size of the nipple and excess flesh. Gyneaplasty is performed with a few small incisions and can be combined with Liposuction. Exercise and diet have proven to be effective but not in all cases 100% of the time.
Other Manly Makeover Procedures:
Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)
Exoderm Lift (Non Surgical Face-Lift)
Otoplasty (Protruding Ear Correction)
Eyelid Surgery
Exoderm Treatment and Preparedness
Risk of complication is minimal and unlikely to occur with
Exoderm Peel and Lift.
To prevent outbreaks of skin rashes male patients may be instructed to take either Zovirax or Valtrex 2 days prior to having the Exoderm treatment and continue on the medication the following 8 days during recovery.
Patients with darker skin may notice a slight red demarcation between the jaw and neck area until the newly regenerated skin has completely healed and resurfaced. As blending creams are applied for a period of 6-8 weeks, the red demarcations will eventually disappear. In few cases prolonged erythema (redness) of the skin may occur in some patients but is only a temporary and usually resolves within a few months following the procedure.
For optimal results postoperative conitnual skin care and daily regimen including sunscreen protection is vital to the development of new longer lasting healthy skin.
