Beverly Hills Breast Implant Specialist, Ivan Thomas Discusses the effects of Breast Feeding
Whether you are a mom to be, or have just given birth, be confident that Dr. Thomas has a solution for your Breasts!
Being a mommy and looking your best can often be challenging and conflicting. However, with today’s advanced techniques in plastic surgery, mothers in Los Angeles and around the country are saying “yes!” to breast augmentation.
Breast Augmentation can boost your self-esteem and make you feel confident, but what happens when the baby arrives? Breast feeding with implants is one of the common concerns among women considering breast enlargement and future breast feeding. The good news is breast implants do not interfere with your ability to breast feed. How the breast implant surgery is performed, however, makes a difference. The use of saline filled or silicone implants is a personal choice, each having their own advantages and disadvantages. Dr. Thomas practices the periareolar submuscular technique which results in more natural breasts, both in feel and shape. In addition, the periareolar incision is placed under the breast line and allows maximum accuracy for the placement of the implants compared to other approaches, thus creating the best possible shape with scars that are rarely visible.

For those mothers who are past the breast feeding stage, and are looking for a “boost”, we’ve got a solution for you too!
The months of nursing after childbirth change the shape and look of the breasts. For many mothers this can be quite disconcerting. Breast augmentation is one solution that can take you back to your Pre-mommy body, and give a new sense of confidence to a mother whose life has completely changed over the course of a few years.
Dr. Thomas performs a unique breast lifting procedure, Internal Mastopexy, otherwise known as the “Invisible Breast Lift”, which is performed during breast implantation. This procedure is ideal for women with mild to moderate sagging, and prevents additional scarring. Mastopexy, on the other hand, is an operation that removes the excess skin and lifts the breasts and the nipples to their normal, youthful position. This procedure is not meant to enlarge the breasts, but rather lift and restore them to their original position. Trimming and tailoring the overstretched skin to fit snugly around the existing breast can have dramatic results, with all suturing is performed beneath the skin- requiring no stitches to be removed. If you are interested in seeing what you are candidate for please call 310.203.8297 for a complimentary consultation with Dr. Thomas.

Reality TV shows like: “The Swan”, “Addicted to Beauty”, “Dr. 90210”, “I Want a Famous Face” and “Extreme Makeover” may be entertaining to watch, but portray a false image of what plastic surgery really is.
While shows like “Dr. 90210” document real life stories of patients from the consultation stage, surgery day, and post op, shows like these portray plastic surgery as a “quick fix”, when in reality, the process of plastic surgery must be careful and well thought out. Especially when it comes to choosing a plastic surgeon. Many of the surgeons on Television are not board certified plastic surgeons in Los Angeles. When choosing a plastic surgeon you want a surgeon to be board certified with the American Board of Plastic Surgeons (ABPS) and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS).
Plastic surgery can definitely enhance and refine your appearance and get rid of long lingering insecurities, but cannot be thought of as magic, as is portrayed in many reality shows today. Creating unhealthy, and unrealistic expectations of plastic surgery, patients are not grasping the idea that plastic surgery is real surgery, with real benefits, alternative results, and risks. Individual patients’ features are unique and influence the results of plastic surgery, making it impossible to achieve “Angelina Jolie’s nose” or “Scarlet Johansson’s breasts”, as many surgeons in reality TV shows promise. Patients should be wary of surgeons who claim they can make a person look like someone else. Patients must realize that surgeons are real people without magic wands, but medical training.

These TV programs are pure entertainment and when a program is about entertainment, drama and ratings, being informative and educational can be a real drag. Reality-based shows about plastic surgery have to cut out the “boring” stuff, yet it is the “boring” stuff that can be the most informative and educational with a topic like plastic surgery. While these shows can give you some insight into the rewards of plastic surgery, it is important to get the information you need from a certified plastic surgeon, like Dr. Ivan Thomas. He will make sure that his patient’s expectations are realistic, that the procedures will benefit them, and that they are ready to undergo such a treatment. You can schedule a free consultation to learn about what Dr. Thomas can do to enhance and refine your appearance, while giving you the information you need to have a safe and rewarding plastic surgery experience.

Plastic Surgeon Dr. Ivan Thomas Repairs Gauged Earlobe
When you are young it may seem like a good idea to place an extremely large earring in your ear. However, as you get older, or if you are trying to look for employment, a person may grow tired of the extremely large hole in their ear. It may be difficult to find a skilled surgeon, who may or may not be able to repair the damage of stretched earlobe piercing.
This much is true for Patient Eric Anderson. Who in his teenage years began Gauge piercing his ears. Now that he is 32 years old he wants to become an EMT and his possible employers have told him because of safety reasons he cannot pursue his new found career goals. After searching for the right person to repair his ears he realizes that it is not an “easy” fix.
Eric came to Dr. Thomas with over 1” openings in his ear lobes.

Patient had Gauged Piercing Repaired
His ornate collection of Gauge earrings range from bamboo discs to flashy rhinestone hoops. Eric say’s “it was a conscious decision” when he began the Gauging process. Now he wants to have his earlobes repaired from the years of stretching and he knows that it will take a skilled plastic surgeon to complete the procedure. This type of repair is so new that there is not even a term in Plastic Surgery for it.
This story has grabbed the attention of the media. In fact that story was featured on ABC’s Channel 7, Los Angeles with Medical Reporter, Denise Dador, on August 18th 2009. Eric’s case is quite unique in that the ear tissue has been pulled and stretched so much, that not much of the normal ear tissue is intact. Watch the story on ABC.
Dr. Thomas had to use his T-incision advanced technique to repair the earlobe. A procedure of this nature will have to be performed under anesthesia and the procedures can take up to 5 hours. The cost to repair an earlobe of this nature can run anywhere from $1,500 to $3,000 per ear.
Eric’s Update:
Eric’s surgery was completed successfully and he is recovery right now. The stitches have been removed however it will be few months before we will see the brilliant results of his earlobe repair.

Gauge Piercing & Body Modification Repair a New Trend in Plastic Surgery
Whenever there is an emerging trend that rises out of the horizon like the sun on a new day; it too like the sun must set. This new trend is a Gauge Piercing also known as Body Modification & Plugs. Gauge Piercings have became a phenomenon amongst Tattoo piercers, teenagers and other sub-cultures.
It’s origins come from Africa and South America and has permeated into the Tattoo and Piercing Parlors of the United States and England.

American Women with Gauge
Gauge Piercing is a gradual process in which the earlobe is stretched centimeter by centimeter, inch by inch in order to attain the ultimate goal of a larger opening and more elaborate piece of jewelry.
The cultural phenomenon of Gauge Piercing is not only exclusive to the earlobe. It can be placed on several parts of the face, including the nostrils, lower lip, cheeks and more. Youtube (watch the changing of a Gauge to a larger size), Facebook, Mypsace and many other social websites have thousands of Body Modification and Gauge Piercing videos, clubs, and networks.
Unfortunately, just as the day grows older, a person grows older and tired of the extremely large hole in their ear. Most will begin to find that it is difficult to find a skilled surgeon who may or may not be able to undo the damage. Dr. Ivan Thomas is skilled in traditional earlobe repair and Gauged Ear Piercings.
