Plastic Surgery Service Announcement – Botched Plastic Surgery
Plastic Surgery Public Service Announcement – How to Avoid Botched Plastic Surgery
Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery Surgeon, Ivan Thomas M.D., releases this Public Service Announcement to help Plastic Surgery Patients Avoid Botched Plastic Surgery
The Holiday Season is a time when many patients undergo Plastic Surgery procedures. The reasons are due to more time off work, kids are not in school and the household budget is coming to a close and discretionary income can be more freely spent. We want you to know of recent developments that our offices have discovered through speaking with many of our patients, their family members and of our own observations. It’s important that if you choose to have a procedure done this Holiday Season you are aware of how to choose a surgeon and what pitfalls to avoid.
“DEALERSHIP” PRICING
|
Time and time again you hear advertising on the radio for Tummy Tucks and Breast Augmentations for nominal fees. Fees are advertised as pricing ending in “$99” or “$95”. This type of pricing is structured to be enticing. In actuality this is the type of pricing you would find at a car dealership. When choosing medical procedures you want to look for practices that base their pricing on an individual’s needs, time in surgery, years of experience and proper qualifications.
BOTCHED PLASTIC SURGERY ON THE RISE
The rate of botched surgery is increasing each year. As cosmetic surgeries are becoming more socially acceptable, more MD’s are practicing cosmetic surgery. Inadvertently you will now find general surgeons and practitioners performing plastic surgery procedures with little or no formal training and proper certifications. You should always choose a plastic surgeon who is Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).
SURGERY SHORTCUTS

Stretched Scars that will not heal from "Donut" Lift
|
|
Shortcuts may result in irreversible financial and physical losses. Be aware of shortcut procedures that are passing trends and make unrealistic promises. We have seen patients who were made unattainable promises such as: Breast Lifts with out scaring (Donut Lift, Beneli Mastopexy), non-invasive Face Lifts that take less time to perform, shorter healing time with long lasting results. Other practices will prey on overweight patients and will perform Tummy Tuck or Liposuction on a patient without having them take the proper measures for weight loss. Without the proper weight loss Liposuction and Tummy Tuck will produce less than desirable results.
“TRICK” PHOTOGRAPHY
Inconsistencies in photography on a Dr.’s website may lead many patients to believe that the work produced is accurate and esthetically pleasing. The trained eye knows what to look for.
Distance – The distance between the before and after can be farther apart tricking the eye to think the patient looks smaller. Lighting – Brighter lighting after shots can portray better results and may not show irregularities. Arms Up & Down – Patients may have their arms up for the after picture making Breast Lifts & Tummy Tucks appear better.

In late dec 1990 I went for eyelid surgery to remove an extra crease located on the inner part of my eyes. The surgeon left me with uneven inner creaese, but fortunately he was very conservation as I asked him to The scar was hidden inside my natural crease and was very thin and not even noticeable. It was even noticeable to my makeup artiist who did my makeup for me. In Spring of 1992, I shopped around this time for an eye surgeon to do the revision work on my eyelids. Little did I know what was about to happen to me. I saw a big one page ad on Los Angeles Times every weekend of this Dr. Adverstising how great his skills are. I went for consultation and little did I know he did write down anything I said. On surgery day he didn’t even know if I was there for one or two eyelid surgery and he was being very silly too. I didn’t bring a picture cuz I thought I told him I wanted the un even inner creaes to be fix. He told me I need to pick an eye from a this magazine he showed me. So, I picked the girl with the eyes closest to how mine pararell creases look like when I was a child. The extra fold wasn’t there when I looked by at grade school pictures. After surgery was I shocked!!!!!!!!!! He made many incisions outside of my natural eyelid creases. He stitched up my eyelid to my eyebrow to part of my forehead. He pulled the stitching super tight toward each side of my eyes and to the side of my forehead. I don’t look at my side profile and now I know why people look at me that way. From my side profile, I have super pucker eyelid creaes and eyebrows, part of my forehead is pucker too!!!!! I have zig zag stitch markings all over the place (all over the creases, inside my eyebrow extended to my hairline and to the side of each of my eyes). People may think why would he do surgery on part of your forehead ?? That is because he was using my face to practice doing facial surgery. Back then he wasn’t, but now I noticed he offered endoscrope forehead lifts and other facial surgeries. He is not a plastic surgeon. And to make things worst both of my eyes are of different sizes and shape. My right eyebrow is lower than my left eyebrow by 1/4″. This occured when I asked him to fix the really noticeable deep incision he made outside of my right eyelid crease. In his attemtp to patch things up, he pulled so much skin down and my right eyebrow is obviously noticeablely lower than my left eyebrow. People are always waiting for me to close my eyes to check the ugly scars on my creases. My creases are lump and bump with zip zag stitch marks and very wrinkle. Back then, there was no internet to get information like today. This doctor charged me the price of any reputable surgeon would. I paid good money and got a mutialted face. Part of my forehad and to the side of my eyes look like a map!!!!!!!. I wouldn’t even wish my worst enemy to be messed this way. I was only 27!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
