Some go as far as paying Google to place their ads at the top of the page for over $25 per click. The advertising dollar is mighty, but the surgeon’s skill, credentials & reputation should always be the mightiest. Breast Augmentation Saline – 46 year old Female patient. Saline breast implants. Patient has an A cup wants to be a C-cup. Examination reveals the left breast is larger than the right breast. Implants were placed through the areola. The right breast does not have a distinct inframammary fold. The larger size was augmented and filled to its maximum capacity of 300cc the right smaller side was augmented and filled to its capacity of 325 cc.

Case 2: Saline Breast Implants

Breast Augmentation Saline – 44 year old Female patient. Saline breast implants. Patient was a B-cup and requested to be a D-cup. Implants placed through areola. Smooth saline Mentor implants using 400 CC on both the left and right sides.

Case 3: Saline Breast Implants

Breast Augmentation Saline – 39 Year patient is a B-cup and requested to be a full C-cup. Patient has considerable amount of breast tissue with mild to moderate sagging. Right side was lower. Implants are placed subglandular with 325 cc smooth, round saline moderate-profile implants, filled to maximum capacity of 375cc.

Case 4: Silicone Breast Implants

Breast Augmentation Silicone – 28 year old Female patient. Silicone breast implants placed under the muscle. 250 cc smooth silicone moderate-plus profile implants on both the left and right sides.

Saline Breast Augmentation or Saline Breast Implant Surgery. Age 27. After patient had children and breast fed, breast deflated and sagged. Subpectoral (under the chest muscles) augmentation was performed. Patient was an A cup and is now a full C or small D. The right side has a 420 cc and left 390 cc.

Breast Augmentation. Age 24. The patient wanted to be a C-cup. Inframammary incisions were made (under the breast line). Patient had some asymmetry (right breast larger than the left). Subpectoral augmentation (under the muscle) was performed with saline breast implants. The left side was augmented with 310 cc and the left 270 cc.

The desire to become a mom is such a strong emotional feeling. This most precious gift can create changes for a mother’s body which can be undesirable.  The process of pregnancy leaves permanent effects on the breasts and abdomen. Breasts Enhancements – Implants & Lift

Pregnancy and breast feeding often take a toll on the breasts causing a loss of substance and severe sagging. This overall deflation is mainly due to a loss of baby weight and breast tissue, and an inability of the overstretched skin to shrink. A Mommy Makeover can include two types of Breast Enhancement: Breast Lift (Mastopexy) and Breast Augmentation (Silicone or Saline).

Mastopexy (Breast Lift) -  Dr. Thomas performs anchor incision Breast Lifts which removes the excessive loose skin and lifts the breasts and nipples to their original youthful position. Stitching is done underneath the skin with absorbable sutures, so there are no stitches to be removed.

Breast Augmentation (Breast Implants) -  When Dr. Thomas performs Breast Augmentation, whether with silicone or saline implants, his goal is to restore the youthful breast size, shape, feel and prefers the implants be placed under the chest muscle as this creates a more natural shape and feel.

Q. What is a Mommy Makeover?

Thoughts on choosing between Saline VS. Silicone

For women choosing breast augmentation who already have a modest amount of normal breast tissue and subcutaneous fatty tissue, either type of implant will normally be very satisfactory and often almost undistinguishable.  This also applies to women desiring a very minimal augmentation. 

For women choosing breast augmentation who are relatively thin or have relatively little breast tissue, sub muscular placement can greatly minimize the undesirable properties of the saline implant.  This is why sub muscular placement is virtually always used in patients who have had mastectomies undergoing reconstruction even with silicone gel filled implants.

  For women choosing breast augmentation who are extremely thin and with minimal breast tissue the silicone gel filled implant has a number of advantages particularly when it comes to the issues of rippling and “natural feel”.  These implants may be placed sub muscular or under the breast tissue at the discretion of the surgeon.

  Why did the FDA ban silicone implants in the first place? 

  The ban occurred for a number of reasons:

Ø       Pressure from the media, trial lawyers, and various activist groups was intense after the Connie Chung show in 1990. 

Ø        There was fear that they were not safe. 

Ø        They were never approved by the FDA to begin with.  They were “grandfathered in 1976 when the FDA began the process of approval as a formal process.

   Even though there was a large amount of research including animal data and human data on the safety of these devices, the FDA elected to take implants off the market entirely at first and then allowed their use in reconstruction only.  As of November 17, 2006 the FDA lifted the ban on the use of silicone implants for breast augmentation surgery. This was because 14 years of research in the U.S. and abroad found no connection between silicone implants and all the diseases claimed by women to be associated with their silicone implants. That means that women desiring breast augmentation surgery have the option of choosing a silicone gel filled implant for her augmentation. This choice will have a number of requirements imposed by the FDA. The FDA is requiring, or at least strongly suggesting, MRI examinations after the first three years and every two years following that.  Also the patient must be a minimum of 22 years of age (18 years of age minimum for saline implants).
