Otoplasty, Botox, Blepharoplasty, Rhinoplasty and more great Plastic Surgery for the Face.

What are you talking about?

You may not realize it but your body can tell someone so much about you. Whether we are interested, confident, poised, healthy, strong, young or old. Sometimes many of these body signals are detected at subconscious levels.

Beyond Words

Besides observing gross body postures and movements, the eyes can detect tiny changes in the bodies of others. Research in laboratories has shown that some of these slight changes are detected at the subconscious level. Here are some of the subtle changes the subconscious can detect.

* Changes in skin tone and texture due to blood flow changes when emotions fluctuate.
* Changes in eye pupil size as interest peaks and wanes.
* Tensioning and release of tiny muscles in the face and scalp from emotional changes.
* Eye angle changes (even at a distance) as one diverts attention away or on something.
* The precision timing of eye contact indicating interest, disinterest, or intimidation.

What do my ears & nose tell others about me

An unconscious cue to recognize youth in is the size of ears compared to the size of eyes.
The ears and nose continue to grow constantly as we age but the eye size remains nearly the same throughout life.

Women throughout history have also taken advantage of this fact and made themselves look younger by using makeup to increase the apparent size of their eyes. Surgery can change the nose (Rhinoplasty) and ears (Otoplasty) to remove a decade or two.

At the right is a woman with her 95 year old ears. Compare her ear size with the much younger woman above.

Older woman who wish to appear as young as possible may want to wear their hair long to cover their ears! Men on the other hand can have otoplasty performed, which can change the projection (how far they stick out) of the ears but not the length. There are surgeries than can reduce the size of the earlobe. Dr. Thomas performs both ear projection and earlobe repair surgeries.

Wise Eyes

You heard the saying “The nose, knows”. Well what about the eyes? They can see and sense things too. Since the eyes are our most powerful body language message transmitters, here are some general rules about looking into the eyes of another person for longer periods of time.

It’s okay to stare for long period of time when you:

* Like or love a person.
* Are far apart and trying to improve communication.
* Are deeply interested in what they are saying.
* Know they are extroverted and like being close.
* Are expecting an answer or response from someone.
* Are trying to dominate and intimidate someone.

Tired Eyes

Many people suffer from tired, puffy or mad looking eyes. Tired eyes can project to others that you don’t want to be bothered or that you may be upset. Has anyone ever asked you if you were tired or mad when you weren’t? Tired looking eyes can be caused from droopy upper eyelids, large bags under the eyes, and/or hollow pockets under the eyes. Scowling or squinting brows can project the image of being frustrated or angry. All these aging eye issues can be addressed through some minimally invasive procedures that take less than one hour to perform.

Quick Cosmetic Procedures for Tired Eyes

Two common techniques in Rhinoplasty are the Closed and Open Surgical Procedures

1. Closed Surgery_No Scarring

Closed Rhinoplasty offers all of the benefits of the traditional Rhinoplasty but without the scarring. No scarring is noted by making a small incision inside of the nose to perform the Rhinoplasty. This is the procedure most commonly used by Dr. Thomas at our Beverly Hills and Lancaster locations.

Take a look at few previous patients from Dr. Thomas’ Photo Gallery.

2. Open Rhinoplasty

Open Rhinoplasty on the other hand, may be used on occasions when it is necessary to have more visible working space to complete the Rhinoplasty procedure. The incision in this case would be made across the Columella (the tissue that separates the nostrils). Small scarring is left as a result of Open Rhinoplasty. (Due to the amount of extra scarring and Dr. Thomas’ surgical skill he does not perform this technique. Dr. Thomas performs the closed technique.)

Nose reshaping options are available for anyone seeking to improve their appearance. Consulting with a an American Board of Plastic Surgery, certified plastic surgeon is vital in determining the best possible short term and long term goals for your self image.

When you come across more confident you will attract the type of reactions and interactions you want from your counterparts and you will be able to focus at the job at hand and not yourself.

Your nose, your self image….and what can be done about it!

How do your counterparts view you? Do you come across as confident, in control and someone who is looking outward instead of inwards? The slightest bit of insecurity can come across as aloof, not trusting or disconnected. This is not the image you want to portray in the work world. It’s important to exude confidence, security and enthusiasm. How do you think it comes across to others if you are feeling self conscious about a physical attribute? This can be true about any aspect of our physical being.

We can be so critical of the image we see in the mirror. The slightest blemish, scar, or imperfect facial feature can cause us to act insecure at a very subconscious level. This can lead us to find easy-to-manage solutions that give us the desired result we’re looking for. Sometimes, the most prominent feature of the face, the nose, can also be the most mentally distracting for someone and source of serious insecurity. An asymmetrical, bulbous, large, or undesirable shaped nose can create imbalance to the face and reduced self confidence. Symmetry of all the facial features however creates the harmonic balance that allows us to feel our best.

Three ways to create a more balanced nose shape & size.

1.	Makeup shading

2.	Injectible filler contouring (Radiesse)

3.	Rhinoplasty

1. Makeup Shading

This can be a convenient non-surgical solution for improving the appearance of your nose. Contouring with a lighter shade of foundation to highlight the wanted features and concealing the unwanted features (angles and bumps) of the nose with a darker shade of foundation before applying the final touch of mineral powder can create the appearance of dimension and depth.

Don’t overdue it!
Be sensible when contouring any feature of your face with makeup…. Daytime wear should require a more subtle blend and shades closer to your natural skin tone.
Nightime wear however, depending on the amount of light that will be reflecting on your face, may require using a heavier application of shading. Remember to blend in the lines of the makeup but don’t overdo it by blending it into the areas not needed!!

Preparation Tools needed to achieve these results are common items found in most makeup cases:

- lip brush

- wedge shaped makeup sponge

- 3 shades of foundation ( skin tone, 1-2 shades lighter and 1-2 shades darker)

- taupe brown and a lighter shade of eyeshadow can be substitued

The following url link provides resourceful instructions on how to use makeup contouring for different shaped noses: “WHAT TYPE OF NOSE DO YOU HAVE?”

2. Derma Filler Injections Nose Reshaping

For non-permanent noticeable results derma fillers such as Radiesse or Juvederm can create a smooth even contour for those with a nose that is slightly misshapen. Such as when the bone protrudes from the slope of the nose or for a nose that is slightly crooked or uneven. Derma fillers can also create more dimension and depth for someone with a flat nose. The procedure generally takes up to one hour with no downtime, can last up to one year and is much more affordable than surgical Rhinoplasty. For a long term investment, Rhinoplasty is a more permanent solution.

3. Surgical Rhinoplasty

There are misshapen noses that require corrective surgery, such as Rhinoplasty to obtain desired results. Statistics reveal according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery that in 2008 Rhinoplasty procedures were performed on 13, 852 patients ages 18 and under; 76,779 nose reshaping procedures were performed on patients ages 19-34. Although some of these surgeries are intended as a corrective solution to those patients who have suffered from breathing difficulty, it is often chosen for aesthetic purposes to create a nearly perfect nose.

The nose is the most prominent focal point and characteristic feature of the face. The slightest reshaping of the nose can greatly improve or alter the appearance of the entire face.

In conjunction with a new and improved appearance Rhinoplasty can
simultaneously be used to treat functional problems such as breathing
difficulty.

Two common techniques that are used in Rhinoplasty are the Closed and Open Surgical procedures.

Closed Surgery_No Scarring
Closed Rhinoplasty offers all of the benefits of the traditional
Rhinoplasty but without the scarring. No scarring is noted by
making a small incision inside of the nose to perform the Rhinoplasty.
This is the procedure most commonly used in our Beverly Hills and
Lancaster locations.

Open Rhinoplasty on the other hand, may be used on occasions when
it is necessary to have more visible working space to complete the Rhinoplasty procedure. The incision in this case would be made across
the Columella (the tissue that separates the nostrils). Small scarring
is left as a result of Open Rhinoplasty.
