Dr. Ivan Thomas

I am seeing increasing number of patients who are interested in the repair and reconstruction of gauged earlobe deformities in recent years. I believe the reason there is more demand for this procedure is due to the job market being highly competitive, more people are seeking to remove the stigma often associated with those who have gauged ears. I have developed & perfected a technique which gives very nice and natural appearing ear lobes. My patients tell me I am one of the very few plastic surgeons they could find on the Internet for this procedure. My results have attracted a number of patients from out of state who fly in just for this surgery. We have received inquiries from as far as Sweden & other countries. One nice young lady who came in last week from Maryland just to have Gauged Earlobe Repair surgery, was so happy with the results, exclaimed that she could not have imagined the results would be anywhere close to what she got. I have received calls from several out-of-state surgeons who requested guidance & instructions for this procedure.

What to do if your Gauge Earlobe Piercing is Infected?

Plastic Surgeon Dr. Ivan Thomas Recommends:

You should stop wearing the gauges see a doctor to determine whether you should go on antibiotics. Do not attempt to wear the Gauges unless the infection has completely cleared and the pain swelling and redness is no longer present. Further complications may occur so be sure to get to a doctor as soon as possible.

Earlobe Repair:

If the Gauge is infected and torn the earlobe can be repaired through a simple outpatient procedure. Gauged earlobe repair is becoming increasingly more popular. Dr. Thomas uses his advanced surgical skill to try to repair what is left of the abnormal ear tissue that has been destroyed from the Gauged piercing. He has had great success in repairing not only Gauged Earlobes, larger than 1 inch in diameter, but he has also had tremendous success in repairing: Keloids (a large bumpy scar), Torn Earlobes, Stretched Earlobes, Split Earlobes.

Plastic Surgery Public Service Announcement – How to Avoid Botched Plastic Surgery

Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery Surgeon, Ivan Thomas M.D., releases this Public Service Announcement to help Plastic Surgery Patients Avoid Botched Plastic Surgery

The Holiday Season is a time when many patients undergo Plastic Surgery procedures. The reasons are due to more time off work, kids are not in school and the household budget is coming to a close and discretionary income can be more freely spent. We want you to know of recent developments that our offices have discovered through speaking with many of our patients, their family members and of our own observations. It’s important that if you choose to have a procedure done this Holiday Season you are aware of how to choose a surgeon and what pitfalls to avoid.

“DEALERSHIP” PRICING

TUMMY TUCK!

$3995

Time and time again you hear advertising on the radio for Tummy Tucks and Breast Augmentations for nominal fees. Fees are advertised as pricing ending in “$99” or “$95”. This type of pricing is structured to be enticing. In actuality this is the type of pricing you would find at a car dealership. When choosing medical procedures you want to look for practices that base their pricing on an individual’s needs, time in surgery, years of experience and proper qualifications.

BOTCHED PLASTIC SURGERY ON THE RISE

The rate of botched surgery is increasing each year. As cosmetic surgeries are becoming more socially acceptable, more MD’s are practicing cosmetic surgery. Inadvertently you will now find general surgeons and practitioners performing plastic surgery procedures with little or no formal training and proper certifications. You should always choose a plastic surgeon who is Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

SURGERY SHORTCUTS

Stretched Scars that will not heal from "Donut" Lift

Shortcuts may result in irreversible financial and physical losses. Be aware of shortcut procedures that are passing trends and make unrealistic promises. We have seen patients who were made unattainable promises such as: Breast Lifts with out scaring (Donut Lift, Beneli Mastopexy), non-invasive Face Lifts that take less time to perform, shorter healing time with long lasting results. Other practices will prey on overweight patients and will perform Tummy Tuck or Liposuction on a patient without having them take the proper measures for weight loss. Without the proper weight loss Liposuction and Tummy Tuck will produce less than desirable results.

“TRICK” PHOTOGRAPHY

Inconsistencies in photography on a Dr.’s website may lead many patients to believe that the work produced is accurate and esthetically pleasing. The trained eye knows what to look for.

Distance – The distance between the before and after can be farther apart tricking the eye to think the patient looks smaller. Lighting – Brighter lighting after shots can portray better results and may not show irregularities. Arms Up & Down – Patients may have their arms up for the after picture making Breast Lifts & Tummy Tucks appear better.

QUALITY, EXPERIENCE & PRICE

Dr. Thomas cares about his patients and wants you to get the best results possible for your one and only face & body. No matter the fee you can be confident that you will love your results and receive only the best of medical care from Dr. Thomas and his staff. To inquire about our newly reduced fee schedule, we urge you to contact our staff for support. If you did happen to choose another physician we hope you are 100% satisfied with your results and wish you all the best.

Reality TV shows like: “The Swan”, “Addicted to Beauty”, “Dr. 90210”, “I Want a Famous Face” and “Extreme Makeover” may be entertaining to watch, but portray a false image of what plastic surgery really is.

While shows like “Dr. 90210” document real life stories of patients from the consultation stage, surgery day, and post op, shows like these portray plastic surgery as a “quick fix”, when in reality, the process of plastic surgery must be careful and well thought out. Especially when it comes to choosing a plastic surgeon. Many of the surgeons on Television are not board certified plastic surgeons in Los Angeles. When choosing a plastic surgeon you want a surgeon to be board certified with the American Board of Plastic Surgeons (ABPS) and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS).

Plastic surgery can definitely enhance and refine your appearance and get rid of long lingering insecurities, but cannot be thought of as magic, as is portrayed in many reality shows today. Creating unhealthy, and unrealistic expectations of plastic surgery, patients are not grasping the idea that plastic surgery is real surgery, with real benefits, alternative results, and risks. Individual patients’ features are unique and influence the results of plastic surgery, making it impossible to achieve “Angelina Jolie’s nose” or “Scarlet Johansson’s breasts”, as many surgeons in reality TV shows promise. Patients should be wary of surgeons who claim they can make a person look like someone else. Patients must realize that surgeons are real people without magic wands, but medical training.

These TV programs are pure entertainment and when a program is about entertainment, drama and ratings, being informative and educational can be a real drag. Reality-based shows about plastic surgery have to cut out the “boring” stuff, yet it is the “boring” stuff that can be the most informative and educational with a topic like plastic surgery. While these shows can give you some insight into the rewards of plastic surgery, it is important to get the information you need from a certified plastic surgeon, like Dr. Ivan Thomas. He will make sure that his patient’s expectations are realistic, that the procedures will benefit them, and that they are ready to undergo such a treatment. You can schedule a free consultation to learn about what Dr. Thomas can do to enhance and refine your appearance, while giving you the information you need to have a safe and rewarding plastic surgery experience.

Key Words: Addicted to Beauty, Reality Plastic Surgery Shows, The Swan, Dr. 90210, I Want a Famous Face, Extreme Makeover, Ivan Thomas MD, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon

Torn, Split & Keloid Earlobe Repair

You may have seen it on ABC, Channel 7 in Los Angeles!

Dr. Thomas was featured on an ABC special discussing how more and more people are looking to get their earlobes repaired due to the fashion trend of heavy earrings and Gauged Piercings. Watch the ABC Special Video

Dr. Thomas specializes in Earlobe repair. In his Beverly Hills, Los Angeles & Lancaster office he has repaired the ear lobes on 100’s women who have either paid the price for wearing heavy earrings or who’ve had their earrings ripped out.

That’s not all Dr. Thomas can do for ears. Dr. Thomas also specialized in removing Keloid scars from ears. A Keloid scar is a large scar that protrudes and must be surgically removed and treated. Keloid scar formation tends to be more common in darker skinned patients and can be quite difficult to treat. Some people who try to Gauge their ears may also get infection and Keloid scarring and can also seek treatment from a Plastic Surgeon.

Dr. Thomas offers complimentary consultation for the repair of: My Gauge Piercing has a Keloid Scar, Keloid Scar Repair, Stretched Earlobe Repair, Torn Earlobe Repair, Split Earlobe Repair.

Plastic Surgeon Dr. Ivan Thomas Repairs Gauged Earlobe

When you are young it may seem like a good idea to place an extremely large earring in your ear. However, as you get older, or if you are trying to look for employment, a person may grow tired of the extremely large hole in their ear. It may be difficult to find a skilled surgeon, who may or may not be able to repair the damage of stretched earlobe piercing.

This much is true for Patient Eric Anderson. Who in his teenage years began Gauge piercing his ears. Now that he is 32 years old he wants to become an EMT and his possible employers have told him because of safety reasons he cannot pursue his new found career goals. After searching for the right person to repair his ears he realizes that it is not an “easy” fix.

Eric came to Dr. Thomas with over 1” openings in his ear lobes.

Patient had Gauged Piercing Repaired

His ornate collection of Gauge earrings range from bamboo discs to flashy rhinestone hoops. Eric say’s “it was a conscious decision” when he began the Gauging process. Now he wants to have his earlobes repaired from the years of stretching and he knows that it will take a skilled plastic surgeon to complete the procedure. This type of repair is so new that there is not even a term in Plastic Surgery for it.

This story has grabbed the attention of the media. In fact that story was featured on ABC’s Channel 7, Los Angeles with Medical Reporter, Denise Dador, on August 18th 2009. Eric’s case is quite unique in that the ear tissue has been pulled and stretched so much, that not much of the normal ear tissue is intact. Watch the story on ABC.

Dr. Thomas had to use his T-incision advanced technique to repair the earlobe. A procedure of this nature will have to be performed under anesthesia and the procedures can take up to 5 hours. The cost to repair an earlobe of this nature can run anywhere from $1,500 to $3,000 per ear.

Eric’s Update:

Eric’s surgery was completed successfully and he is recovery right now. The stitches have been removed however it will be few months before we will see the brilliant results of his earlobe repair.

Stay tuned for more photos on Eric Anderson’s Earlobe Repair.

Expert in the industry also know that the only way to repair a Gauge hole is by Plastic Surgery. Watch this video in which it is described.

Gauge Piercing & Body Modification Repair a New Trend in Plastic Surgery

Whenever there is an emerging trend that rises out of the horizon like the sun on a new day; it too like the sun must set. This new trend is a Gauge Piercing also known as Body Modification & Plugs. Gauge Piercings have became a phenomenon amongst Tattoo piercers, teenagers and other sub-cultures.

It’s origins come from Africa and South America and has permeated into the Tattoo and Piercing Parlors of the United States and England.

Mursi Women

American Women with Gauge

Gauge Piercing is a gradual process in which the earlobe is stretched centimeter by centimeter, inch by inch in order to attain the ultimate goal of a larger opening and more elaborate piece of jewelry.

The cultural phenomenon of Gauge Piercing is not only exclusive to the earlobe. It can be placed on several parts of the face, including the nostrils, lower lip, cheeks and more. Youtube (watch the changing of a Gauge to a larger size), Facebook, Mypsace and many other social websites have thousands of Body Modification and Gauge Piercing videos, clubs, and networks.

Unfortunately, just as the day grows older, a person grows older and tired of the extremely large hole in their ear. Most will begin to find that it is difficult to find a skilled surgeon who may or may not be able to undo the damage. Dr. Ivan Thomas is skilled in traditional earlobe repair and Gauged Ear Piercings.
