Dr. Ivan Thomas
I am seeing increasing number of patients who are interested in the repair and reconstruction of gauged earlobe deformities in recent years. I believe the reason there is more demand for this procedure is due to the job market being highly competitive, more people are seeking to remove the stigma often associated with those who have gauged ears. I have developed & perfected a technique which gives very nice and natural appearing ear lobes. My patients tell me I am one of the very few plastic surgeons they could find on the Internet for this procedure. My results have attracted a number of patients from out of state who fly in just for this surgery. We have received inquiries from as far as Sweden & other countries. One nice young lady who came in last week from Maryland just to have Gauged Earlobe Repair surgery, was so happy with the results, exclaimed that she could not have imagined the results would be anywhere close to what she got. I have received calls from several out-of-state surgeons who requested guidance & instructions for this procedure.

After years of wearing hoop earrings my piercings have stretched significantly. When consulting your patients before undergoing this type of surgery do you recommend that their ears never be pierced again or is it possible to maintain presentable piercings as long as small earrings are being used?
In response to your question Letiesha, Dr. Thomas recommends that 6 months after repair, ears can be pierced again providing that piercing is not done on the healed incision.
